Why 10 hours of ICF Mentoring must span at least 3 months
July 16, 2024ICF Coaches, are you suffering from “Credential Freeze?“ Are you overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start to make progress toward your professional Certification?
Does a lack of clarity around your next steps keep you from acting to obtain or renew your ICF credential?
I speak with, train, or mentor hundreds of ICF coaches yearly. Very few of them are 100% clear on their periodic credential requirements, exam requirements, ethics-specific training requirements, mentoring requirements, and 40-hour continuing education required every three years.
If Credentialing Freeze sounds familiar, check out the three action saboteurs below. Are any, or all of them, standing in the way of your progress toward your desired ICF Credential?
Three reasons you may be procrastinating about your ICF certification:
- You don’t know where to start. Whether you’re seeking your first or subsequent recertification, it’s not something we do every year, and then there are “the updates.” Check out this ICF PowerPoint with step-by-step instructions on locating your renewal application and adding the required CCEs.
- You have a lapsed credential, meaning your certification has expired, and you need help figuring out what to do and how much work is involved in getting recertified. Welcome to the club! Up to a quarter of my clients arrive at mentoring and CCEase training with a lapsed credential.
Rest assured, the ICF understands that lapses can occur and has established a clear path for recertification. It’s not a daunting process; it requires extra time and work. It can also be a great learning opportunity.
- You may be unsure whether you want to renew your current credential, apply for the next level, or work without an ICF credential. You’ve heard things about a new exam! PCC Markers! Minimum Skills Requirements, and more!
Each coach’s situation is unique, and it helps to understand all the paths and options available to you. Let’s have a conversation, and I’ll guide you through it, providing the support you need to navigate this process confidently.
Don’t let confusion deter you from taking action, whether it’s a lapsed credential or another obstacle. Help is available!
